How to Get Your Family Ready For Moving

Moving isn’t as easy as it seems. Going to a new place is certainly exciting, but the process leading up to it is one of the most stressful ones. Moving requires proper planning and preparation, as is a long process that has to be efficiently managed to avoid hassles.

Not only are physical preparations necessary for moving, but you also have to be mentally prepared. In this blog, we’ll explain some ways in which you can help your family prepare for moving, both physically and mentally.

Inform Everyone About It

When you’re planning to tell your kids about moving, make sure everyone is present. You don’t want to let one or two kids know later from someone else. Moving is already stressful, and this will only add to it.

Hear Their Opinions

Let your family members express their opinions and consider them. Listen to them and clear their confusions by explaining it to them and answering their questions.

Involve Them in Decision-Making

Involving your family members in decision-making can be a way to help them relax a little, especially the kids. For example, allow the kids to pick a room of their choice in the new home. This will make the kids a little excited instead of being nervous about the new place.

Give Everyone a Role

Assign certain things to every family member to keep them a little busy so they don’t overthink about moving. For kids, this could be as simple of a task as packing their toys or packing their clothes or shoes in a box, etc. This will not only help reduce moving stress but also make the kids feel invested in moving.

Create Excitement

This might not be instant, but you can make the move exciting. Explore the new neighborhood, or city if you’re moving cities. Explore new places there, restaurants, stores, supermarkets, landmarks—anything that excites the kids and your family members.

Throw a Farewell Party

Throw a farewell party at the house you’re leaving. This will help your family realize that the decision to move is indeed done and will be happening, and will also give you a chance to say a proper goodbye to your relatives and friends in that area, as well as the neighbors.

Family Time

Take out time from your busy schedule and spend it with your family. Spending time with the family is a great stress buster, and will help all of you relax.

Packing the Kids’ Bedrooms Last

Try and pack your kids’ bedrooms at the end. If possible, make sure it’s also the first room you unpack in your new home. This is because kids take moving more seriously than adults, and it’s often more stressful for them. Staying in between packed boxes may not be a very good feeling for your young ones.
