Moving Out of State? Items You Should Take and Leave Behind

Moving out of state can be a daunting task, to say the least.

The key to having a successful move is preparing well before you start. After all, it’s never wise to just toss anything we want into our moving boxes.

In this guide, we’ll help you plan your packing list and talk about what you should and shouldn’t bring in on your move day.

Things To Take

1. Clothes

It’s easy to forget about clothing when packing up for a move, but make sure to bring enough to last you at least three weeks. Also, remember that if your new home is close to any major city, there will be plenty of options for laundry facilities in your new city. So pack light-on clothes until after you’ve settled into your new home.

2. Bedding

If you’re moving into an apartment or condo, we recommend taking at least one queen-size bed set and a few sheets and blankets (including a duvet cover).

3. Kitchenware

You should bring the following items along with you:

· Food storage containers

· Dish soap and scrub brushes

· Kitchen utensils (spoons, ladles, etc.)

· Plates, bowls, and cups for serving food

multiple cardboard boxes lying around

4. Personal items

These include toiletries (shampoo and conditioner), toothbrushes and toothpaste, feminine hygiene products (tampons/pads), makeup items, perfume or cologne, lotion/body wash, and undergarments.

These also include furniture and appliances that are sentimental or expensive.

If possible, hire residential movers like Eastern Van Lines, with access to moving trucks, to do it for you. We will pick up items from storage or bring them to their final destination once they have been packed in boxes or crates.

5. Documents and records

Before moving out of state, documents like contracts, security cards, birth certificates, licenses, passports, and warranties should be packed along with any other paperwork related to your home, business, and insurance.

Don’t forget to update all information on the necessary documents, so it reflects the current status if necessary and includes any new addresses or phone numbers as well. Also, pack your credit/debit cards, as they’ll allow you to use them wherever you go while you’re in transit.

Things To Leave Behind

· Broken furniture is one of the most common things that people leave behind when they move out of state.

· When moving out of state, consider leaving behind the clothes you no longer need and donate them to a local charity.

· Also, leave out any perishable food items behind. You can either give it out to those in need or make sure to finish most of it before relocating.
