What to Pack for the First Day in Your New Home – Mover’s Guide

When moving to a new home, packing all the essentials for the first day can help ease your transition. After the exhausting process, you would want to enjoy the new place and relax for a while rather than sifting through hundreds of boxes looking for a towel or a pair of shoes.

Our professional movers have created a list of things you should pack for the first day in your home to relax and reenergize for the lengthy unpacking and organizing process.

Toiletries

Pack your essential toiletries like you would when traveling. Ensure you have all the family members’ basic stuff, including shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, medicines, etc. Instead of packing the actual bottles, put these things in travel-friendly bottles because you only need them for a few days.

Snacks and Basic Groceries

After an exhausting moving process, the last thing you want is to shop for groceries or even cook a meal. Get some snacks to munch while unpacking and organizing, and stock up on the basic groceries for the first week in advance. If you’re moving with kids, pack their bottles, utensils, snacks, etc., separately. They must be more affected by the moving process than you, and these things will comfort them in the new home.

Devices

Nowadays, getting anywhere without our devices is impossible. Ensure you carefully pack all your essential devices, such as phones, laptops, tablets, etc., along with their chargers or other electronics.

Clothes

The first thing you’ll need after moving to a new home is a change of outfit. Pack a few sets because it will take a while to unpack other boxes and set up your wardrobe. Planning and packing your outfits for a few days will help you carry on with your work or other responsibilities without going through multiple boxes.

Don’t forget to pack your comfortable PJs and socks to unwind after an exhausting day filled with unpacking and organizing.

Fresh Linen

There’s nothing more comforting than lying on a freshly made bed with clean linen after a move. Keep a fresh set of linen aside for each room to ensure everyone sleeps comfortably.

Pillows

What’s the point of packing linen if you don’t have comfortable pillows? Everyone is used to sleeping with their pillows and throws, so make sure you pack them for the first night. Otherwise, you’ll find yourself sifting through boxes in the middle of the night.

Towels

After moving and unpacking, you’ll need a nice and relaxing bath to wash off the exhaustion. Make sure you pack clean towels.

Cleaning Supplies

Ideally, you should deep clean your home before the moving day. However, there may be some dust or debris that needs cleaning. Pack essential cleaning supplies for the kitchen, bathrooms, drawers, and rooms.

Tool Kit

Pack a tool kit with scissors, box cutters, screwdrivers, and other essential tools. This kit will come in handy for unpacking and assembling furniture.

Pet Supplies

If you’ve got pets, don’t forget to pack their supplies, such as bowls, food, toys, medication, and litter.

First Aid Kit

A first aid kit is an essential item that every home needs. If you’re getting store-bought kits, they may not have painkillers, antiseptic or antiallergic drugs. Packing these extra medications will ensure everyone’s comfort.
